| The launch of Vanavaas was conducted at the M.CT.M. Chidambaram Chettyar Matriculation Higher Secondary School, in Chennai. This school has been the first to introduce these traditional games to the children and has been the catalyst in the creation of Kreeda. Over 150 guests attended the launch. Most of the guests were those who have supported the revival of traditional games in their own way. Guests included the staff of a number of schools, members of the press, people who have helped test the games before production, and many others. Although four games were launched, the focus was on Vanavaas – a path breaking innovation from Kreeda. The programme itself was an unusual one. Rather than the traditional chief gust and speeches, this one was put together by children and had an appealing informality to it. Chairs were arranged in a horse-shoe shape and all guests were requested to participate in the singing. The story of the Ramayana was recited in verse punctuated by short simple songs in simple and popular tunes. Words were handed around to the audience to let them participate. The programme ended with the presentation of the games and a short talk on Kreeda. A tea followed the event and a display by Kreeda kept the visitors engrossed. |
